Q: I have a family friend who is a realtor. Should I give her the listing or get another realtor?

A: You should get three competing realtors give you a written market evaluation, friend or no friend. Your friend can be one of them. Mixing business and friendships is always risky. We always recommend NOT to deal with friends. Friends often fail to tell YOU the truth that YOU need to hear, i.e. the price is too HIGH. What you want is the BEST person to help you buy or sell . . . and that may be two different people -one at the buying end and the other at the selling end. While it is possible, all that is rarely accomplished by a friend. And, if your friend resents you for not getting the listing, imagine how she will feel when you believe she did not do a good job.
